Sleet and Freezing Rain Expected To Impact Tonight’s Evening Commute

Posted at 1:20 p.m.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Weather Advisory from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. tonight (Monday, Jan. 8) for Fairfax County.

A wintry mix with freezing rain and sleet will most likely impact the commute home for some people. The ice will result in very slippery conditions on roads, bridges and sidewalks.

If possible, you should get where you need to be before the weather gets bad. If that is not an option, drivers should be prepared to slow down and drive extra cautiously as the ice will cause travel difficulties.

Also, be sure to stay informed this season with our Winter Weather Guide, and sign up for Fairfax Alerts to be notified about weather events and other emergencies.
