4 Things to Know After the Snow

Posted 2:46 p.m.

The bulk of the snow is over for our area, but a few more inches may be possible this evening. We’ve shared information today and we simply want to recap these key topics with you as we head toward the evening:

  1. VDOT: Travel Conditions Remain Hazardous // VDOT Snow Plow Map
  2. 8 Snow Shoveling Safety Tips
  3. Cleared Fire Hydrants Matter When Seconds Count
  4. Keep Emergency Routes Clear

In the meantime, stay safe and enjoy the snow if you like the white stuff. Tell us what you’re seeing in your neighborhood: amount of snow, number of snow men, snow angels and igloos, and stories of snow shoveling brigades!

Great job guys!! McLean is clear. Your trucks went to the side streets. Congrats and thx

I too live in McLean and I would not say our streets are clear. They trucks have passed through a couple of times but there is simply too much snow all at once to make for safe driving on the side streets.

    Thanks for keeping everyone informed.

Any word on when there will be an announcement about FFX county Government status for tomorrow?
We already shoveled for hours today, because our HOA seems to hire incompetent plow truck drivers, who often do not show up at all. So our cars are cleared, however, the roads are for sure not passable. Plus, it is still coming down right now.
I would like to be able to prepare for child care tomorrow if I have to and I am sore and tired from shoveling. I really would like to know soon if at all possible.

    1. Please update more frequently – FCPS announced at 4:15 that they’re closed tomorrow: http://fcps.edu/news/emerg.shtml

    2. Ditto on the thanks for all the hard work folks are doing to clear us out, even if we’re not first on your list–it’s quite a job.

I need to go to sleep now. Please send an update about the operating status. We need to know so we can plan accordingly.
