It’s Still Hot

High temperatures continue today. While residents are cleaning debris from homes, heat safety needs to be kept in mind.

  • Drink plenty of fluids: Drink two to four glasses of cool fluids each hour if you are in a hot environment. Your body needs water to keep cool. Drink water even if you don’t feel thirsty.
  • Do not drink caffeinated or alcoholic beverages because they dehydrate the body.

    The CDC recommends drinking 2 to 4 glasses of water per hour *if you are exercising outdoors* (http://emergency.cdc.gov/disasters/extremeheat/heattips.asp). Drinking this much in more normal circumstances could be dangerous.
