Fighter Jets to Fly Over D.C. Region From 3-5 a.m. Tonight
Don’t be alarmed if you see or hear fighter jets and a helicopter crisscrossing the skies tonight.
As part of an exercise, U.S. Air Force F-16 fighter jets and a Coast Guard HH-65 Dolphin helicopter will be flying over the metro area from 3-5 a.m. tonight.
This is part of “Falcon Virgo,” an exercise by the North American Aerospace Defense Command. NORAD will be exercising its intercept and identification operations, as well as operationally test the National Capital Region Visual Warning System.
This system lets pilots know when they are entering the tightly controlled or restricted airspace surrounding the D.C. region. This restricted space extends about 35 nautical miles out from Reagan National Airport in D.C.
If there is bad weather, the exercise will take place the following day.
Thanks to our friends in uniform for keeping us safe.
