Volunteers Needed to Help with Flood Relief Efforts in the Huntington community in Fairfax County

In response to the recent flooding in Northern Virginia, Volunteer Fairfax, as requested by the Fire and Rescue Incident Command Center, seeks volunteers to assist with relief efforts TOMORROW, SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, 2011, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Volunteers are needed to commit to a five hour shift and will be tasked with: lifting, moving, organizing, removing debris and cleaning personal items (heavy lifting may be involved). All volunteers must be at least 18 years old or 16 years old with parental consent. Volunteers will receive instructions, safety equipment and a brief training before being deployed to needed areas.

If you are interested in volunteering, please park at the Huntington Metro Station (2475 Huntington Avenue, Alexandria, Virginia 22303) and walk to the Huntington Community Center (5751 Liberty Drive, Alexandria, Va). On arrival, please find the Volunteer Fairfax table to check in.

PLEASE DO NOT SELF DEPLOY.

Everyone must wear closed toed shoes. Sturdy shoes such as work boots or sneakers are recommended. You should wear lightweight, comfortable clothing that you do not mind getting dirty.
