Hurricane Irene Update (2:30 a.m.)
Hurricane Irene is beginning to diminish in Fairfax County. The National Weather Service predicts another 0.5 to 1 inch of rain until daybreak. Sustained winds will be 25-30 mph with 30-40 mph gusts, slowly diminishing Sunday afternoon.
The National Weather Service predicts no further flood threat in the Huntington, Belle View and New Alexandria sections of Fairfax County.
Thousands of homes are without power in the county and more homes may still lose electricity. View important utility phone numbers and links to outage maps. Be prepared to report a loss of utilities.
