Winter Storm Warning in Effect Tonight Through Monday Afternoon

Posted at 4:30 p.m.

A National Weather Service winter storm warning is in effect from 7 p.m. this evening until 2 p.m. Monday, March 17. A winter storm warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring.

Significant amounts of snow are forecast — accumulations of 4 to 8 inches.

A mix of rain and snow early this evening will change to all snow by mid evening. Snow will continue overnight through early afternoon Monday. The heaviest snow is expected late this evening through early Monday morning.

Roads will become snow covered and slippery.  If you don’t have to be on the roads, stay home — plan to get where you need to be before the weather gets bad. Visit the Virginia Department of Transportation for the latest on the roads.

To stay informed about the storm, continue to follow this blog and be sure to listen to Fairfax County Government Radio.

Please declare FCPS school close for March, Mon 17, you need to think about their safety, we cannot risk them standing at Bus Stops with 8″ of snow accumulation and Accuweather predictions being “Poor at Bus Stop. The county has to make a earlier decision rather than informing parents at late night intervals. The middle/high school students can sleep well without any hesitations.

I agree that they need to make safe decisions and make them in time for families to plan…but county govt does not make the decision about school closings…the superintendent of schools does that…completely different so those folks won’t see your comments/plea here. u need to go to FCPS websites/blogs, I know schools have already called it for tomorrow but just letting you know for future. Hope your kids enjoy the snow day :-)

Close FCPS schools March 17th Monday. We cannot risk our children at Bus Stops or walking them at side walks with 4-8 inches of snow accumulation.

Here we go again, will Fairfax county lead or will they wait for Montgomery county to announce their decision and then we follow their lead? Safety of both the Kids and County employees.

Loudoun county just announced the schools are closed, Again another county leading the way for the packs to follow

FCPS already closed, you pack of semi literate, mouth breathing, couch potato, chuckleheads. So whiny, so lazy…I bet you’re all county employees.

    • Yeah right says :

The emergency announcements on the FCPS site and Twitter feed are marked 7:00 pm. In case you were wondering, 6:51, the time of the last post before yours, happens before 7:00. Chucklehead. Can’t you find a better place to troll than an emergency announcement blog?

Hey mf we’re human just like you. Be nice.

    • You wish you worked for the county says :

Lol. You know what . I’m so glad someone else “read you” in reference to your comment about fcps already closing and the time they announced that they were closed vs the times they left their comments. Also, please do not come for the employees. Are you mad that your résumé didn’t get forwarded ???

“If you don’t have to be on the roads, stay home.” The County’s message but then tells thousands of folks to get on the roads to come to work…mixed message much? Set the example for what you are asking.

“If you don’t have to be on the roads, stay home” is the County’s message but then tells thousands of folks to get on the roads to come to work. Mixed messaging much????? Set the example for what you want. You want folks at work then stop telling folks to stay off the roads. If you don’t want them on the roads then don’t make them drive to work.

      Agreed

    • You wish you worked for the county says :

Ugh. I hate this. You know the roads suck. You value the lives of the children, teachers, bus drivers , administrators etc, but you don’t care about the county employees??? What about all the minor accidents that occurred the last time it snowed??the police didn’t even come out for any of them. Will the residents of fairfax county be that affected if the county is closed tomorrow??dfs is already behind by 2 months. The seniors don’t need to be out in this weather , the kids won’t be going to the centers, so what’s the point? We miss tony griffin. I’l be home where it’s nice and warm and safe. I’m sure the county won’t pay for my car or rental car if I slide off the road tomorrow . Bye Felicia!
