Who to Call About Downed Trees
Posted 11:53 a.m.
Hurricane Sandy has left debris in many of our yards. In all cases, stay away from downed wires near downed trees. Electricity can travel through tree limbs. Never remove tree limbs or other items that are touching or near a downed wire.
Here’s who to call about downed trees:
Adjacent to Public Roads
- Contact Virginia Department of Transportation at 1-800-FOR-ROAD, TTY 711.
On County Parkland
- Contact Fairfax County Park Authority at 703-324-8594, TTY 703-324-3988. More information about tree removal on Park Authority land can be found here.
Posing Hazard to Public Areas
- Contact Fairfax County Urban Forestry at 703-324-1770, TTY 703-324-1877.
Private Property
- Removal is the property owner’s responsibility. Be aware of the risk of chain saw injury during tree removal. Use a chain saw safely

Nice job on the communications. Thanks.

There is no Fairfax County trash pickup today. If you have a private provider, please contact them directly to see if they are picking up trash today.
I think you miss Mr. Patierno’s point. For those of us who normally have scheduled FAIRFAX COUNTY trash pickup on Tuesdays, which as you note was canceled, when will Fairfax County pick up our trash?
Government Service decisions will be made later today and will posted here on our blog.
Residents in sanitary districts receiving trash and recycling collection service on Tuesdays from Fairfax County will be served on Wednesday, Oct. 31. (http://fairfaxcountyemergency.wordpress.com/2012/10/30/county-trash-collection-update/)

Two trees fell on my home last night. Can cut trees (trunk, branches, etc.) be placed on the curb for pick up? If so, when should I put it out? If not, who should I call?
Here is a link to our options for debris removal: http://fairfaxcountyemergency.wordpress.com/2012/10/30/debris-removal-and-cleanup-options-for-hurricane-sandy/ I suggest calling for a special collection from your trash collection provider.
Anyone have any idea when the power will be be back at Newington Forest area?
Thank you very much!
Hello,
I live at 3404 Burgundy Rd. I had a tree fall during the storm. I have cut it up and place it in a pile in front of my house. I scheduled a pickup for this week but they never came or the tree was not picked up. I have scheduled another pickup for next week. Is there anything else I can do to get this taken care of? Is there a reason why they would not have picked it up?
